These coatings also offer excellent adhesion for paints, making them an ideal base layer for organic coatings. Additionally, during cold processing, the conversion coating acts as a lubricant, reducing friction and wear, which enables the workpiece to endure higher loads.

Aluminum & Magnesiumchemical Transformation Film

The chemical conversion coating for aluminum and aluminum alloys (MIL-DTL-5541F) is formed through a process where the surface of the aluminum reacts with a chemical oxidizing agent in a conversion solution, creating a protective conversion film.

For magnesium and magnesium alloys, the chemical conversion coating (AMS-M-3171) is created through chemical or electrochemical treatment, forming an insoluble film that consists of oxide, chromium, phosphide, and other compounds. This coating not only protects the substrate and metal materials from corrosion but also enhances the adhesion of subsequent coating layers.
